While OS X’s dock provides a handy way of launching programs and navigating your system, it is also a little limited. DragThing is an alternative dock tool which is highly customisable. Multiple docks can be created that provide access to your programs, files and folders but there are a number of extra features to look out for as well.
Frequently used snippets of text or code, as well as images, can be stored in a dock so they are always available for pasting into a document when they are needed. Hot spots can be configured around the edge of your screen to allow for even easier launching of programs and accessing options.
Initially, the range of options available in DragThing can be a little overwhelming – but this also means that this is one of the most highly configurable programs available. The look of docks can be personalised to a minute level and each dock you create can be configured with different settings.
There are a number of nifty extras such as the ability to add a Trash icon to the desktop, support for a massive selection of hot keys and the option of using sound effects to accompany events such as the ejecting of disks.
