A free, open source, easy-to-use and feature-rich educational GNU/Linux operating system
As its name suggests, Escuelas Linux is a free distribution of Linux whose main target are educational institutions from Spain and other countries where Spanish is one of the spoken languages. It is a full-featured GNU/Linux operating system that includes a wide range of open-source applications, as well as a modern and attractive graphical desktop environment. The English language is also supported, but needs to be installed manually (detailed instructions can be found at
Distributed as 32-bit/64-bit Live DVDs
The operating system is distributed as two Live DVD ISO image that fit perfectly on single-layer DVDs or USB flash drives of 8GB or higher capacity (recommended). There are two ISO images, one for each of the mainstream hardware platforms, 32-bit and 64-bit.
The user must use the ISO image that corresponds to his/her computer architecture to boot the operating system, access the live environment, and, eventually, install the Linux distribution on the respective PC.
From the Live DVD boot menu, the user will be able to start the operating system in live mode with default settings, as well as in safe graphics mode, perform a memory diagnostic test or boot an existing OS from the local disk drive. English users can find detailed installation instructions in the PDF manual provided by the Escuelas Linux developers at http://sourceforge.net/projects/escuelaslinux/files/languages/English/.
Comes pre-loaded with numerous applications
Users won’t have to download any file or modify configuration files and, of course, to compile anything in this distribution, as it comes pre-loaded with numerous programs, which are preconfigured and ready-to-use. Teachers responsible for the classroom where the Escuelas Linux is installed will be able to easily restore user’s account to default settings with as minimum effort as possible.
