A 64-bit Chinese distribution of Linux that uses the KDE Plasma desktop environment
OsoLinux is a free and open source distribution of Linux designed for Chinese users. It uses KDE Plasma as its default and only desktop environment, and includes several open source applications that are not related to the KDE project.
Supports only 64-bit hardware platforms
The distribution has been designed from the ground up to support only the 64-bit (x86_64) instruction set architecture, which means that will run on modern computers. It’s distributed as a Live DVD ISO image that has approximately 1GB in size and can be written to either DVD discs or USB sticks.
The Live DVD features advanced boot options
Besides the ability to start the live system with default settings or in safe graphics mode, the Live DVD boot menu includes advanced options, such as the ability to start the MaxDOS DOS-like operating system or use the ISOLINUX bootloader to start other OSes that are installed on external drives or on the same computer, boot an existing OS from the local drive, as well as to reboot or shutdown the machine.
KDE Plasma looks great, modern and productive
As mentioned, the OsoLinux distribution is built around the KDE Plasma desktop environment, which looks great, modern and productive. The desktop comprises of a single taskbar that allows users to navigate the main menu, launch applications, cycle between virtual workspaces, interact with running programs or access system tray functions.
Comes pre-loaded with powerful applications
Some of the best open source applications and utilities have been included in OsoLinux, such as the Apache OpenOffice office suite, Google Chrome web browser, Audacity audio editor, LiVES video editor, SMPlayer video player, Claws Mail email client, FileZilla file transfer client, GIMP image editor and DeSmuME Nintendo emulator.
It also includes KDE-specific apps
As expected, the distro also includes popular KDE-specific applications like the K3b CD/DVD burning software, Gwenview image viewer, Okular document viewer, KWrite text editor, Konsole terminal emulator and Dolphin file manager.
